Step 4

Ok so I've been talking with Dean about his 43012 weedhopper wing and have decided to use the underlayment  for the rib structure,  I am watching weight carefully so the "lightning holes will be considerably larger.  The 1/4 in thickness with the channeled cap strips will provide more than enough rigidity.  I'll post photos as I progress on this

  1. So far my 43012 wing is holding up well... except for the root ribs (both sides), which were NOT cap stripped. So, they have warped along their lengths under the tension of the shrunk dacron. They've buckled and broken at the trailing edge spar (where they are the thinnest), despite 5 vertical reinforcement strips equally spaced along their lengths.

The resulting small amount of puckering of the fabric is not enough to impact flight performance. So, my advice is to double the thickness of the root ribs AND cap strip them with beefier stock. Mine were made without lightening holes.
